A Delicious Night Out at Grille620 in Ellicott City

I don’t usually leave Baltimore very often — the city has almost everything I need — but when the Business Administrator for Grille620 invited me and a friend to check out their restaurant in Howard County, I was happy to make the drive. With great reviews on Yelp and Foursquare, plus a recommendation from a fellow blogger, we knew we were in for a treat. Chef Fabio is doing incredible things — you can check him out on Instagram to see all his creations.

Full disclosure: my impression of Ellicott City (and much of Howard County) is mostly strip malls and shopping centers… but hey, sometimes great food is worth the drive through suburbia!

We kicked things off on the patio with a couple of starters. My friend, who’s a Baltimore native and can never say no to crab, went with the Crab & Artichoke Dip. It was cheesy, creamy, and packed with crab — a perfect shareable starter.

I went for the Tuna Tartare, fresh diced tuna over seaweed salad, drizzled with wasabi aioli, and served with a few wonton chips. The seaweed added a nice brightness and crunch, while the wasabi aioli gave the dish a creamy kick. Beautiful presentation, fresh flavors, and a perfect start to the meal.

For their entree, my friend ordered the Filet Mignon. Usually, I shy away from filet because it can lack flavor, but this was an exception. Chef Fabio’s spice rub created a perfect crust on the outside while keeping the meat tender and juicy — my friend declared it the best filet they’ve ever had.

I went for the Rack of Lamb, a special for the evening. Ten perfectly cooked lamb chops (yes, ten!) were rubbed in the same delicious spice blend as the filet and paired with roasted peppers and truffled potato wedges. The meat was juicy, medium-rare, and bursting with flavor — easily one of the best lamb dishes I’ve had in a long time.

We also shared a side of Charred Brussels Sprouts. They were slightly sweet with a teriyaki-style glaze. Tasty, but the spotlight definitely remained on the meats.

To finish off, we split the Brownie Sundae. Warm, gooey brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, caramel, and hot fudge. A classic dessert done exceptionally well — a perfect end to a perfect meal.
