One of my favorite parts about traveling is coffee shop hopping. After some browsing, it seemed that Portola Coffee Roasters was one of the best coffee roasters in the area so of course I needed to check it out. The location in Orange was closest to where I was staying and I’m so glad I visited this cute little town.
The espresso menu contained eleven different items but what really jumped out to me was the Flat Brown. Mainly because I had no idea what it was. I’m so glad I inquired about this drink because it’s a flat white with an added pump of chocolate fudge. Oh my goodness this is my new favorite drink. Espresso, steamed milk, chocolate, and foam – what’s not to love?
This location of Portola is inside of Provisions Market and that was a gift because I was able to order some things to snack on during the day. When I first got there, it was around 9am so I ordered an Avocado Toast. The fresh crusty sourdough was slathered with creamy avocado, radishes, pickled shallots, and capers. It was creamy, and salty, there was a little bit of heat, and I devoured this.
The best part about hanging out in the marketplace all day was the large selection of beers. As the afternoon rolled around I decided to grab a beer. After browsing the selection, I went with The Willy from Alpine Beer Company. It was a pale wheat ale and I really enjoyed it.
To accompany my beer, I ordered the Cucumber & Avocado Sandwich. The combination of avocado, lettuce, cucumber, red onion, goat cheese, and pepper jam on sourdough was awesome. Every bite was creamy and cut with the crisp lettuce and cucumbers. The flavors combined so well and it was such a refreshing bite.
Portola Coffee Roasters and Provisions Market are located at 143 N Glassell St, Orange, CA
