If there’s one thing I’ll never say no to, it’s pizza — and the pizza from Birroteca in Hampden definitely does not disappoint. Fun fact: Birroteca is owned by Robin Haas, the same culinary mind behind another favorite of mine, The Nickel Taphouse.
A friend and I met for dinner at Birroteca and decided to share a few dishes (because, honestly, choosing just one thing from their menu is impossible).
We kicked things off with the Caesar Salad, which was simple and classic, featuring crisp romaine and ciabatta croutons. The flavor was great, though I do wish the dressing had been a bit creamier — I’m picky about my Caesars!
Next up was the Pappardelle, topped with a rich wild boar bolognese and ricotta salata. You could tell immediately that the pasta was homemade — perfectly tender, with that fresh, rustic flavor that makes all the difference. The cheese added a light creaminess that tied everything together beautifully. Honestly, it was one of the best pasta dishes I’ve had in a long time.
And of course, we couldn’t leave without trying one of Birroteca’s famous pizzas. We went with the Locavore, topped with mushrooms, onions, pecorino, fresh mozzarella, EVOO, and arugula. I’m a sucker for fresh veggies on my pizza, and the peppery arugula added the perfect touch — cutting through the richness and giving it a bright, fresh finish.
If you’re in Hampden and looking for great craft beer, house-made pasta, and artisan pizza, Birroteca is absolutely worth a visit. Whether you’re grabbing a casual dinner with friends or planning a cozy date night, it’s one of those spots that always hits the mark.
Birroteca is located at 1520 Clipper Rd, Hampden
