Coffee and Pastries at Order & Chaos Baltimore

As a caffeine fiend, I try to visit as many coffee shops around Baltimore as possible. Over the past year, one spot that has consistently stayed in my rotation is Order & Chaos in Federal Hill. Between the welcoming staff and a thoughtfully curated coffee program, it’s the kind of place where you can count on leaving caffeinated and happy.

The shop has built a reputation for highlighting quality coffee from respected roasters, and every visit feels like a chance to try something new. On my most recent stop, my girlfriend and I popped in for a quick breakfast before heading to Washington, DC for a day trip. It was the perfect excuse to fuel up with good coffee and a few pastries before hitting the road.

Coffee to Start the Morning

She opted for a pour-over coffee while I went with a latte. The beans of the moment were from Passenger Coffee, a well-known specialty coffee roaster in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The latte was smooth and balanced, and it was exactly the kind of drink that makes early mornings feel a little easier.

Spinach and Cheese Pastry

Alongside the coffee, we couldn’t resist the pastry case. Order & Chaos keeps it stocked with a rotating selection of baked goods, and we ended up sharing three of my favorites. First up was the Spinach and Cheese Pastry. The pastry dough was perfectly flaky and buttery, wrapped around a creamy spinach and cheese filling. It honestly felt like the best version of creamed spinach tucked inside a pastry shell.

Egg and Cheese Pastry

Next was the Egg and Cheese Pastry. Much like the spinach pastry, the dough had that same flaky, buttery texture but this one was filled with soft, fluffy eggs. It’s the kind of simple breakfast pastry that pairs perfectly with a strong cup of coffee.

The Walking Waffle

The real highlight of the menu here, though, is the Walking Waffle. The batter includes pearl sugar, which caramelizes when it hits the waffle iron and creates those crisp, sweet edges. It’s a simple concept but incredibly satisfying, and honestly it might be the best waffle in Baltimore right now.
