Fresh Poke at Poke Bowl Factory Anaheim

One thing California is especially known for is incredibly fresh seafood. So while I was visiting, I knew I had to take advantage of that and track down some poke. I’ve always been a big fan of poke bowls, and the West Coast has fully embraced the trend with build-your-own spots popping up everywhere. While wandering around Anaheim, I happened to walk past Poke Bowl Factory and immediately knew this would be the place for my first taste of fresh West Coast fish.

The setup will feel familiar to anyone who’s visited a poke restaurant before. You order at the counter while looking over a colorful lineup of toppings and sauces, then the poke master assembles your bowl right in front of you. It’s one of my favorite kinds of meals because you can build something completely different every time depending on what you’re craving.

Building the Perfect Poke Bowl

For my base, I went with brown rice before going a little wild with the toppings. My bowl ended up piled with salmon, tuna, edamame, avocado, jalapeño, corn, cucumbers, roasted garlic, and sesame seeds. To bring everything together, I chose a combination of yuzu ponzu and spicy mayo.

The result was exactly what I had hoped for — a bowl packed with fresh fish, bright flavors, and plenty of texture from all the toppings. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, which is exactly what you want when you’re eating poke.

Strawberry Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich

After finishing the poke bowl, I couldn’t resist ordering a dessert from the case: a Strawberry Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich. The ice cream was creamy and full of strawberry flavor, and while the sandwich quickly turned into a bit of a messy situation after a few bites, it was still completely worth it.

Sometimes the best travel meals come from spontaneous stops like this one.
