I met up with a friend for dinner in Mount Vernon, and we were both craving sushi. Since Minato Sushi was just a short walk from her apartment — and we’d heard it had a more laid-back vibe than XS — it sounded like the perfect spot.
When we walked in, the atmosphere was exactly what we wanted — casual, cozy, and perfect for catching up over sushi and sake.
Like any proper sushi meal, we kicked things off with an order of Edamame. It was solid and well-salted, but nothing too remarkable — just a nice light start before the main event.
The real highlight, of course, was the sushi. My friend and I decided to share four different rolls so we could try a little of everything. We ordered:
- Tuna Lover Roll
- Spicy Tuna & Avocado Roll
- Volcano Roll
- Roman Roll
All four were fresh and flavorful, but the Roman Roll definitely stole the show. Inside was spicy tuna and avocado, while the outside featured mango, salmon, and white tuna — a perfect mix of sweet, spicy, and savory. The combination of textures and flavors made it stand out among the rest.
The sushi at Minato was fresh, beautifully presented, and just inventive enough to keep things interesting. It’s an ideal spot when you’re craving great sushi without the fancy, high-energy atmosphere — just good food and good company.
Minato is located at 1013 N Charles St, in Baltimore
