St. Louis doesn’t always get mentioned in the same breath as bigger food cities—but it should.
After a few days eating around different neighborhoods, what stood out was how consistent everything felt. Not just one great meal—multiple spots doing things really well without trying too hard.
This guide covers where to eat, drink, and take a break in St. Louis—based entirely on firsthand experience.
Little Fox: Dinner
Little Fox was easily one of the best meals of the trip.
The menu leans seasonal, but nothing feels overcomplicated. Everything is thoughtful and balanced.
What we ordered:
- Stracciatella with toasted bread
- Bone marrow & onion soup
- Bolognese Bianco
- Short ribs
- Wild blueberry cake
The stracciatella was rich but still light. The bone marrow added depth to the soup without making it heavy. The bolognese bianco kept things simple in a way that worked.
Short ribs were straightforward and done really well.
Dessert held up too—the blueberry cake was clean and not overly sweet.
Overall: One of those meals where every course lands.

Songbird: Breakfast
Songbird was one of the better breakfast stops we had.
The menu is pretty focused, but everything is done well. They’re known for their sandwiches, especially on house-made bread, and it shows.
It’s simple, consistent, and easy to work into your morning without overthinking it.

Bowood by Niche: Brunch
Bowood is bright, open, and sits inside a greenhouse space, which makes it feel a little more relaxed than most brunch spots.
What we ordered:
- Cacio e pepe eggs
- Banana caramel coffee cake
- Coffee
The eggs were simple but solid—soft, cheesy, balanced with greens and toast. The coffee cake was more on the indulgent side, with a good crumb texture.
Nothing felt rushed, which made the whole experience better.
Overall: Easy brunch spot that gets the basics right.

Brennan’s: Drinks + Food
More casual compared to the other spots, but still solid across the board.
What we tried:
- New York Sour
- Chicken dumplings
- Pineapple daiquiri
- Soft pretzels with cheese
- Smoky the Pear
Cocktails were balanced and easy to drink. Nothing overly complicated. Food leaned shareable and worked well with the drinks.
Overall: Good spot to wind things down.

Coffee Stops
Finca Coffee & Northwest Coffee Roasting Company
We ended up at a couple different coffee spots depending on the day.
Finca is smaller and more of a quick stop—good coffee, a few pastries, and you’re in and out.
Northwest Coffee is the opposite. More space, more relaxed, and a better place to sit for a bit and slow things down between meals.
