Sunday mornings at home are something I truly treasure. It’s usually the one morning of the week where we slow down, brew a really good cup of coffee, and cook a breakfast that feels a little more special than the usual weekday eggs.
So when Domino Sugar invited me to try their newest product, Golden Sugar, I immediately started thinking about what recipe would fit perfectly into that Sunday morning ritual. Golden Sugar is slightly less processed than traditional white sugar and works beautifully as a substitute in recipes where you want a little extra depth of flavor.
That’s how this Pistachio Dutch Baby with Cherry Compote came to be.

A Summer Cherry Compote
Summer in the Mid-Atlantic means cherry season, and grocery store displays full of deep red cherries are almost impossible for me to walk past without grabbing a bag.
One of my favorite ways to use them is cooking them down into a simple compote. When cherries get warm and syrupy, their flavor becomes even more intense, and they pair beautifully with pistachios.

The cherry compote for this recipe can be made up to a week ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It’s also incredibly versatile — spoon it over toast, swirl it into yogurt, drizzle it on ice cream, or use it as a topping for pancakes.

The Magic of a Dutch Baby
If you’ve never made a Dutch baby before, let me introduce you to one of the easiest brunch recipes you can make.
A Dutch baby is essentially a skillet pancake baked in the oven. As it cooks, the edges puff dramatically while the center stays soft and custardy. The best part? The entire dish comes together in about 25 minutes while you sip your coffee and ease into the morning.
It’s the kind of brunch dish that looks impressive but requires very little effort.
When it’s just my girlfriend and me, we usually make one Dutch baby in our 10.25-inch cast iron skillet and split it. If we’re craving different toppings, the batter can easily be divided between two 6-inch skillets so everyone gets their own version.

Serving Ideas
This Pistachio Dutch Baby is best served warm, straight from the skillet with the cherry compote spooned generously over the top.
A few additional toppings that work beautifully include:
- Powdered sugar
- Fresh whipped cream
- Vanilla ice cream
- Extra crushed pistachios
- A drizzle of maple syrup
It’s the kind of brunch dish that feels perfect for slow weekends, holidays, or whenever you want breakfast to feel a little extra special.
