The Food Market: Upscale Comfort Food in Hampden

Celebrate any occasion at The Food Market in Hampden, Baltimore. Enjoy upscale comfort food favorites like Amish Soft Pretzels, Steak Frites, and Chargrilled Lamb Rack in a welcoming atmosphere.

In April, I visited The Food Market in Hampden for brunch and loved it. Located right off the avenue, this restaurant specializes in upscale comfort food with creative twists. Recently, a friend and I returned for dinner to celebrate some exciting news — and once again, the experience did not disappoint.

We started with the Amish Soft Pretzels, which I had enjoyed at brunch. Served with a beer cheese fondue made with pepper jack, the pretzels were soft, fluffy, and perfect for dipping into the wonderfully spicy fondue.

We also shared the Pan Roasted Popcorn, topped with basil, grated cheese, and truffle oil. While flavorful, I wished the toppings were more evenly distributed across the dish.

For her entrée, my friend chose the Steak Frites with a roseda sirloin cut. The steak was packed with flavor and came with truffle parmesan fries that were thin, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. The dish also included seasonal vegetables and 36th Street steak sauce, making it a hearty and satisfying choice.

I went with the Chargrilled Lamb Rack, served with whipped potatoes, grilled asparagus, and Avenue 1 sauce. The lamb was tender and delicious, and the mashed potatoes were creamy, though the tomato-forward sauce wasn’t my favorite. Portions were generous, making the meal both indulgent and filling.
