Update: Farmstead Grill is now closed.
Farmstead Grill opened about a year ago in Canton. Since it opened, my friend and I have wanted to try it there, but we never quite make it over there in favor of one of our favorites closer to home. On a recent Friday evening, we had some things we wanted to pick up at Target and thought it would be a perfect time to try out Farmstead Grill.
The weather was beautiful so we opted to eat outside. Based on some Yelp reviews, we knew to order the Chips and Dip, even though they weren’t on the menu. The chips were very crispy and salty, the Greek yogurt dip was perfect for tempering some of that salt.
My friend decided to order the Steak Entree and was given the option to chose a cut of meat and a side. She chose the Flatiron steak with a side of Fingerling Potatoes. The steak was cooked and seasoned well, but overall it didn’t stand out from other steaks she has had around town. However, the potatoes were cooked well and very flavorful ad well as tender.
For my meal, I ordered the Smoked Brisket Sandwich. It was ancho chili rubbed brisket, horseradish cream and pickled shallots. The brisket was incredibly tender and the sandwich was excellent, however the creamed spinach was very mediocre. My sandwich came with a side of chips but because we had started with chips, I substituted for creamed spinach. It was basically spinach in a cheesy liquid, I wouldn’t order that again.
Overall, we had a fine experience. The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t extraordinary either. If I was over in Canton Crossing and looking for a sit down meal, I would consider heading back to Farmstead Grill, otherwise I can’t see myself heading back there for dinner.
Farmstead Grill is located at 3721 Boston St, in Canton
