Few foods make people as instantly happy as a big plate of wings. Whether they’re crispy, saucy, grilled, or fried, they’re the kind of dish that disappears almost as quickly as you put them on the table.
When I had friends coming over for dinner recently, I knew wings would be the perfect choice. They’re easy to cook, great for sharing, and always a crowd favorite.
Even better, grilling wings gives them a smoky flavor that you just can’t get any other way.
Why These Grilled Wings Work
The key to great grilled wings is layering flavor.
First, the wings cook directly on the grill until they’re juicy and tender. Then they get tossed in sauce and returned briefly to the grill so the glaze caramelizes slightly on the skin.
For this batch, I used Budweiser’s line of BBQ and wing sauces, which added a sweet and smoky flavor that worked perfectly with the grilled chicken.
A Fresh Slaw to Balance the Wings
Whenever I make wings, I like serving them with something crisp and refreshing.
This carrot-celery slaw does exactly that. The creamy yogurt dressing and bright lime juice cut through the richness of the wings while the cabbage and celery add a nice crunch.
It’s simple, fresh, and the perfect side dish for grilled chicken.

Lightly salt and pepper your wings on each side and place on a hot grill close together.

Whisk the yogurt and lime juice together and toss in the bowl with the vegetables. Add salt and pepper as necessary to taste.
-
When the wings are cooked through, remove from the heat and toss into a clean bowl with the Budweiser sauce, coating evenly.
-
Use tongs to remove the wings from the sauce and put them back on the grill until the skins crisp, 1 to 2 minutes per side. Put the wings back in the bowl with the sauce, toss, and serve alongside slaw.
